Students age 13 years or older with a minimum of one year of study on their instruments, as well as adult musicians, are encouraged to apply to attend UMSL's Jazz Combo/Improv Camp and spend a week studying with some of the finest and most talented jazz musicians in the country.
Jim Widner currently serves as director of Jazz Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and leader of the Jim Widner Big Band and the St. Louis Jazz Orchestra. Jim is an alumnus of the Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, and Glenn Miller big bands. In 2006, the title of Statesman was conferred upon Jim by the Statesmen of Jazz. He has performed with artists such as Clark Terry, Bill Watrous, Mulgrew Miller, and Randy Brecker.
