The UMSL Girls’ Leadership Camp is a day camp. It is an exciting summer experience for high school young women, incoming freshmen to seniors, including outgoing seniors (students who have just graduated from high school). Girls explore educational and leadership opportunities to help fulfill their career goals. The program is different each year so that students can attend each summer, but always includes energetic hands-on activities and multimedia presentations.
The camp emphasizes real-world, practical learning experiences, including meeting and learning from college students, faculty, staff and professional women across various occupations. Special attention is given to young women making intelligent choices and taking charge of their ongoing success. Additionally, the camp features opportunities for parents to gain knowledge about helping prepare their daughters for success and a better future. This is an amazing opportunity for girls to learn how to fulfill their dreams while having fun with their peers.
This fun-filled program explores nontraditional and traditional careers and fields of study, inspiring young women to take hold of their dreams and aim high for success and a better future. Camp activities will heighten awareness and better inform campers and parents about college readiness, career readiness and leadership readiness, including exploring the relationship between education, occupation and quality of life. Campers also engage in leadership exercises and games to increase their skills, knowledge and abilities.
The program begins at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, with a panel discussion for families and students comprised of women leaders in various professions. The presentation is followed by a reception for participants to meet and mingle with UMSL students, faculty, staff and professional women.
Monday–Wednesday, June 24-27, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., focuses on nontraditional and traditional majors and careers with many fun and exciting activities, designed to integrate collaborative learning and skill building. Wednesday afternoon, parents are invited to return for a panel presentation on college affordability and a program put on by the campers to show their families what they've learned and experienced.
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided.
