Continuing Education - FAQ

How do I register for a credit course?

Answer

Current UMSL students who receive an e-mail message from the Registrar's Office with an appointment time may register:

  • online at myview.umsl.edu
  • at the Registrar's Office in 351 Millennium Student Center, or
  • by calling Continuing Education at (314) 526-5961 (including TDD).

New Graduate Students

Students pursuing a graduate degree at UMSL should have prior approval of their advisers to assure that credit for course work will be recognized toward completion of their degree program. Students not pursuing a graduate degree at UMSL, but who are considering doing so, are encouraged to make formal application for admission to a graduate program immediately and to check with an academic adviser in their discipline to assure acceptability of credit in that graduate program. Students may be admitted to the UMSL Graduate School as degree- or nondegree-seeking:

  • Degree-seeking—A student wishing to pursue a graduate degree from UMSL must submit a completed application at www.umsl.edu/divisions/graduate/prospective/howtoapply.html, official transcripts from all colleges previously attended, letters of references, and test scores, as required by the particular program.
  • Nondegree-seeking—A student not wishing to pursue a graduate degree from UMSL may be admitted as a nondegree student. Students enrolling in nondegree classification are provisionally admitted on the basis of a copy of a transcript showing completion of a baccalaureate degree with a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. (See Transcripts section below.) Failure to submit an official transcript prior to the end of the first semester of enrollment will result in credit being recorded as undergrad-uate. Credit for all subsequent courses will be recorded as undergraduate until an official transcript is submitted and the student is admitted to the Graduate School as a nondegree student.
    • Should a nondegree student decide to pursue a degree, he or she must make formal application to the Graduate School at www.umsl.edu/divisions/graduate/prospective/howtoapply.html. However, a maximum of nine credit hours (subject to recommendation by the student’s advisory committee) taken as a nondegree student may be applied toward a graduate degree.

New Undergraduate Student

Students pursuing an undergraduate degree should have prior approval of their adviser to assure that credit for course work will be recognized toward completion of their degree program. Students not pursuing a degree at UMSL, but who are considering doing so, are encouraged to make formal application for admission immediately and to check with an academic adviser to assure acceptability of credit toward the desired degree. Nondegree-seeking students are welcome to enroll in a course so long as prerequisites have been met.

Undergraduate students are required to submit their transcripts only upon formal application for admission to UMSL. To apply, visit www.umsl.edu/admission.
