You can implement an Empowering Young Women Conference or Girls' Club at your school by following the steps below:

Planning an Empowering Young Women Conference

  • Get administrative support. Sell the conference with data, observations, etc.
  • Determine budget.
  • Form planning committee.
  • Identify logistics:
    • Time schedule
    • Space available (large rooms, breakout space)
    • Target audience (girls, coed, or parents)
  • Communicate to parents and get permission, if needed, for girls to participate.
  • Determine design.
    • Awareness Activities: Older-girl panel, movie clips, speaker. This piece should be no longer than 40 minutes.
    • Experiential Activities: Girls need to interact and reflect on self through games, art, movement, etc.
    • Community-building Activities: Determine how the girls will share their concerns and make commitments to each other.
    • Follow Up on the Day: Determine how you will keep the girls invested (monthly gatherings, posters, annual event).
  • Evaluate conference.

Planning an Empowering Young Women Girls' Club

  • Determine your commitment level (such as time and energy) as club advisor.
  • Identify the girl leaders.
  • Collectively determine the mission of the club.
  • Determine logistics: Meeting space, frequency of meetings, membership (requirements, expectations, limit).
  • Plan activities: Speakers, fun activities, awareness campaign, community service.
  • Market the club: Communicate to school and community the club's mission and activities.
  • Evaluate success.
