This course introduces students to Africa's diasporic communities which through forced migrations and sispersals, have come to inhabit diverse places such as Argentina, Brazil, the Iberian Peninsula, the Caribbean, Iran, India, Iraq and Russia, to name a few. Students are encouraged to look beyond the tragedy of slavery and examine the emergences of remittance economies and diasporic foreign relations that link black communities throughout the world in the 21st century.
