Online Missouri Personal Finance Challenge (8:00 AM)

March 15-26, Monday–Friday

 

This FREE contest will be of special interest to anyone teaching the new, required course in personal finance but is open to all who touch on this subject, whether in social studies, business, or family and consumer science classes. Teachers sponsor teams of four high school students who compete in an online quiz. All members of the top 20 teams compete in the regional competitions at four sites around the state.  The University of Missouri–St. Louis Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Education hosts the Eastern Regional Competition on April 14, 2010.  Students compete for a school trophy, prizes, savings bonds and a chance for the state title.

Students of all levels will stretch their poetic muscle to try out a variety of materials, moods and structures. The workshop will explore what it means to write poetry that can celebrate as well as mourn and be silly as well as serious. Students will examine the process of writing, what hinders writers and what pushes writers forward. Writing exercises will be complemented by readings of contemporary poets.

Have you ever wanted to be the voice everyone hears on commercials and documentaries? This fun and interactive class covers details of the industry, the importance of marketing and of a demo tape. You will be coached and recorded for a personal evaluation. Be warned – many who have taken this class have gone on to become real, bona-fide professional Voice Actors! This class is taught by a professional voice actor from the voice acting training company, Voices For All.
